ABOUT THE CALTECH ORCHESTRA





The Caltech Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Allen Robert Gross,is a full seventy-piece symphony orchestra comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff at Caltech. The orchestra rehearses once per week and gives four concerts annually on the Caltech campus at Ramo Auditorium. Recent concert programs have included symphonies by Mahler, Brahms, and Beethoven, as well as the contemporary compositions. The Caltech Orchestra has collaborated with such artists as Martin Chalifour, Danielle Belen, Steven Vanhauwaert, Samuel Fischer, and Lawrence Sonderling.

      Saturday, September 29, 11:00 am to 2:30 pm

      Sunday, September 30, 4:00 - 6:00 pm Sunday, September 30, 7:00 to 10:00 pm

      Please bring a short solo (3-4 minutes) that represents the level of your playing. You will be asked for a scale or two and will be given some sight reading. For further information please contact Prof. Gross at agross@caltech.edu.

      Rehearsals begin Tuesday, October 2 in Ramo Auditorium, from 7:30 – 10:00 pm.

      Sign-up sheets will be posted in the Music House during the week prior to auditions.
